15th Ophthalmological Congress - 20 millieme

The 15th International Congress of Ophthalmology (XV Concilium Ophthalmologicum) convened in Cairo in December 1937, marking the first time this global medical assembly was held in the Middle East or Africa. Hosted by Egypt, the conference brought together prominent eye specialists, surgeons, and medical researchers from across the globe to exchange findings on trachoma, eye surgery, and preventative eye care—fields of critical importance to public health efforts in Egypt at the time.

To commemorate hosting this prestigious international medical assembly, the Kingdom of Egypt issued a dedicated stamp set during the conference in December 1937. Hosting the congress allowed the Egyptian government to highlight its medical infrastructure, modern clinical research facilities, and historical role as a regional center for scientific progress and healthcare development.
