International Cotton Congress - 20 millieme
The 18th International Cotton Congress (Congrès International du Coton) met in Egypt in January and February 1938, bringing together leading agricultural scientists, industrial delegates, and trade experts from around the world. Cotton, particularly high-grade long-staple varieties, was the absolute backbone of Egypt’s agricultural economy and export revenue during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Hosting the assembly in Cairo and Alexandria provided a national platform to discuss global trade policies, pest control, spinning techniques, and market stabilization.
To mark the occasion, the Kingdom of Egypt issued a dedicated commemorative stamp set in January 1938. Hosting the international gathering allowed the Egyptian government to highlight the economic importance of its agricultural sector, promote its world-renowned cotton industry, and demonstrate its leading role in global agricultural trade.
