Death of Ibrahim Pasha (1848-1948)- 10 millieme
Issued in 1948, this stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of the death of Ibrahim Pasha (1789-1848), the eldest son of Muhammad Ali Pasha and one of the most distinguished military leaders in modern Egyptian history. The design features a portrait of Ibrahim Pasha against a background of naval warships, reflecting his important role in the expansion and modernization of Egypt's military forces during the first half of the nineteenth century.
Ibrahim Pasha commanded Egyptian armies in campaigns across Arabia, Sudan, Greece, Syria, and Anatolia, achieving a series of notable victories that established Egypt as a major regional power under the rule of Muhammad Ali. His military reforms, strategic leadership, and administrative abilities contributed significantly to the development of the modern Egyptian state. Although he briefly succeeded his father as ruler of Egypt in 1848, he died only a few months later.
By issuing this commemorative stamp, the Kingdom of Egypt honored Ibrahim Pasha's legacy as one of the architects of Egypt's military and political rise during the nineteenth century. The issue celebrated his contributions to state-building, military modernization, and national history, recognizing him as one of the most important figures of the Muhammad Ali dynasty.
